The Arc of Wichita County

…Jaime was adopted when she was 2 years old, and her mother was the center of her world.  They were best friends.  In January of 2022 her mother died of Covid!  Jaime’s world was turned upside down. Even though she was 20 years old, she had no other family she was willing to live with and was forced to be alone.  She was referred to The Arc by a case manager from Helen Farabee and was embraced by her new Arc Family.  Surrounded by a support team of volunteers, Jaime began establishing her new independence.  She was scared, but proved so much to herself and others and has been living independently for over a year.  It is not easy for Jaime as she misses her mother and encounters challenges along the way, but she continues to grow every day.  She is a true testament of what individuals with disabilities can do when given encouragement and opportunities.

The Arc exists to serve adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing a variety of programs and services. These programs include: a Day Hab for adults, social activities for teens and adults, summer camps for all ages, employment services, a self-advocacy group, a teen after-school transition program, and an integrated child care program for children with and without disabilities.
